Overview
This Privacy Policy applies to the SentryBox Android application ("Application"), developed and published by the SentryBox team ("we", "us", "Service Provider"). By using the Application, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information we collect
The Application itself does not collect, record, or transmit any personal information. Specifically:
- Your dashcam footage is read directly from your USB drive and processed entirely on your device.
- No video, image, or audio data is uploaded anywhere.
- No account or login is required to use the Application.
- No usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry are sent by the Application.
- No advertising identifiers are accessed or used.
Third-party services
SentryBox integrates two external services. Each has its own privacy policy and data practices, which are independent of ours.
The SentryBox Pro purchase is processed through RevenueCat and Google Play Billing. When you make or restore a purchase, RevenueCat receives a device-level purchase receipt and a pseudonymous installation identifier to validate your entitlement. This data is used solely to confirm your Pro status and is not linked to your name, email, or any other identifying information. RevenueCat's privacy policy applies: revenuecat.com/privacy.
The Map tab displays GPS-tagged clip locations using map tiles served by Stadia Maps. When the Map tab is open, your device contacts Stadia's servers to download the visual tiles for the area shown. Like any HTTP request, this transmits your IP address to Stadia Maps. No GPS location is sent; tile requests are based only on the coordinates of your imported clips, not your device's current location. Stadia Maps' privacy policy applies: stadiamaps.com/privacy.
The Application is distributed through the Google Play Store. Google may collect installation and update analytics under their standard platform terms. This is outside our control and governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Device permissions
The Application requests the following Android permissions:
- USB / External storage access: required to read TeslaCam footage from a USB OTG drive. No files are copied off the device.
- Internet: required for map tile loading (Stadia Maps) and in-app purchase validation (RevenueCat). Not used for any other purpose.
- Billing: required by Google Play for in-app purchase processing.
The Application does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location sensor, or any other device capability.
Data retention and deletion
The Service Provider retains no user data on any server. Exported clips and application settings are stored locally on your device inside the application's private storage directory. This data is automatically removed when the Application is uninstalled, or can be cleared at any time via Settings → Storage → Clear Clips Cache within the Application.
Children's privacy
The Application does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). Because no personal data is collected by the Application itself, it does not pose data privacy risks specific to minors. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a third-party service integrated with the Application, please contact that service provider directly.
Security
Since no personal data is transmitted or stored by the Service Provider, the security of your information depends on the security of your own device. We recommend keeping your device's operating system and the Application updated to the latest available version.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically. When changes are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. We encourage you to review this page before each major update. Continued use of the Application after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Significant changes that affect how third-party services handle your data will also be noted in the Application's Play Store release notes where possible.
